I like the fact that it is an entire city of subculture, or close to it - a place where the heavier, more profound particles of human diversity settle out and collect. It's a fertile and sheltered stretch of land where art, creativity, diversity and tolerance are allowed to seed, and grow tall enough to shelter you from the unhapiness that seems to be so prevelant elsewhere.
